Plate of St. Patrick's Day Foods

Are you ready for St. Patrick’s Day?

If not, then you better get ready!  If you already have your green outfit and shamrocks and pots of gold, then the next item on St. Patrick’s Day to do list should be your menu and About The Table can help with that.  Chef Bianca has provided a list of several dishes for your menu that use traditional ingredients but have an added flare that your guests are sure to love.

Corned Beef

The star of the show! Slow cook the corned beef and for more flavor add a touch of Irish beer and beef stock. This dish is not just great for your dinner menu but makes excellent leftovers for breakfast the next morning with a corned beef hash with over easy eggs.

Cabbage

Cabbage is a traditional side, but instead of the boiled, bland dish we are used to, make a coleslaw to add a light, bright and refreshing element to the spread.

Bangers & Mash

You cannot have a St. Patrick’s Day menu without this traditional dish.  Bangers and Mash, also known as sausages and mash, gets its name from the bursting or “bang” of the sausages and the mashed potatoes.  For a different take on this one, add in some Irish Dubliner cheese into the mashed potatoes. “Dubliner is a sweet, mild and mature cheese taking over 12 months to develop the sharp robust flavor and texture of mature cheddar, the nuttiness of Swiss cheese and the bite of Parmesan cheese”. After all the Irish love their potatoes!

Irish Soda Bread

In my family, we use bread as another utensil – so this meal wouldn’t be complete without traditional Irish soda bread slathered with Kerrygold butter. Kerrygold butter is an all-natural butter made from the milk of Irish grass-fed cows. This is a must try item!

The Gravy

The secret weapon here is the gravy – slow cooked, caramelized onions deglazed with Guinness Stout (This is a must to make sure you achieve the perfect flavor!) and beef stock! Finish your gravy with some Worcestershire sauce and a touch of mustard to have the perfect topping your guests will go wild for!

And after everyone is done enjoying this St. Patty’s Day feast, it is time for a nap….
